Frankley School Newsletter
Term 4, Week 5
Kia ora koutou, Talofa lava, Hola, Konnichiwa, Kumusta, Namaste, Ni hao, Guten Tag, Hallo, Mauri, Hej, Assalamualaikum, Bonjour
A massive thanks to our SFRC team of volunteers, especially Karrie, Erin and Karen, who made a massive effort to make sure our raffle and silent auction was successful. Thanks to our community for contributing to the grocery raffle, selling and buying tickets and to our sponsors for providing great auction items. We are looking forward to a great Frankley School Carnival in 2021.
Room 5 - We will be renaming this space to Te Tinihanga (changing space) from the beginning of 2021.
I wish many of our families a wonderful time as they celebrate Diwali with festivities and family time this weekend. I have seen some beautiful henna designs this week.
Tohu Consultation
Thank you for taking time to give feedback on our 2 tohu options. From the beginning of next year you will see this design on our signage. Our children will learn in depth about the meaning behind the design and it’s connection to our new vision:
Tū Kaha Tū Manaaki Tū Ako
Thanks to Philippa Berry-Smith from FILAMENT web and graphic design for her extensive research and mahi to create this for us.
Working Bee - 12 and 13 December
We need your help to construct this marvellous design below. We have the resources ready to go; including the designer, project manager, and catering team. We just need the skills of our local families to put this together for our children. Please contact me directly if you can give a day or even an hour of your time to make this happen. We will be well organised and efficient on the days. Looking forward to spending some community time with you. Cheers.
2021 Camp
We are changing the set up of our camps moving forward. All of our Year 5 and 6 children will attend camp together as a senior group every year. We will no longer be taking Year4 students to camp.
Year 5 and 6 Camp: 10-12 March 2021
We will be taking all of our Year 5 and 6 children to Te Wera Valley Lodge Camp, situated 37 kilometres from Stratford on the Forgotten World Highway 43. It borders on the Te Wera Forest, a half hour drive from Stratford. We will be needing support from whānau to make this camp successful. Please email me directly if you would like to attend. Police vetting needs to be completed before the end of this year so it is important that you let me know as soon as possible if you would like to spend 3 days at this beautiful spot. Some of you may have already been vetted in the last 2 years and will be on our school records.
Swimming Pool
We are looking for volunteers to help out with the school pool over the summer. You will be given excellent training and a pool key for your whānau. The more people helping the better. We can only open the pool to the community with your support. Please contact Robyn in the office to put your name down.
Kia ora from our Whare Pukapuka
Our students are able to issue up to four books for a fortnight and happily, most return them on time, but unfortunately, many books don’t find their way back to school by the due date. With our annual stocktake underway and the end of term 4 rapidly approaching, we would really appreciate you helping your children to find and return any overdue library books as soon as possible.
We are continuing to issue books right through to the end of the year and as research tells us that there is often a ‘summer slide’ in reading over the long holidays, we’re more than happy for our students to issue for holiday reading too.
Nga mihi mahana,
Jackie Cameron (Librarian
Te Pihinga's Trip to Big Jims
Te Pihinga were really lucky to get on a bus and head out to Big Jims. While there we asked lots of questions about how we can make our gardens grow. We were really lucky and they showed us how to sow seeds properly, and shared with us how we can make sure they grow the best. Their main advice was to make sure we all bought our seeds, seedlings and plants from Big Jims - as their plants grow the best!
Thanks to all the parents and grandparents who came along for the trip - it was lovely to all be out and about and exploring!
